Angel Yeast has inaugurated a new, fully automated yeast protein production line at its Baiyang Biotechnology Park in Yichang, Hubei, China, marking a significant step in meeting rising global demand for sustainable protein solutions.
The facility has an annual capacity of 11,000 tons of high-purity yeast protein, with protein content exceeding 80%, and offers potential for future expansion. Angel Yeast, headquartered in China with 33 facilities worldwide, said the milestone underscores the growing importance of protein innovation in the food sector, as companies increasingly incorporate multi-functional protein solutions into their product portfolios.
Produced using advanced bio-fermentation technology, the new line integrates modern control systems for full-process automation—including fermentation, autolysis, separation, and drying—creating a seamless end-to-end operation covering raw materials, packaging, and warehousing. The process is conducted in controlled fermentation tanks, enabling year-round production independent of climate or season.
Angel Yeast’s flagship yeast protein product, AngeoPro, recently won FoodBev Media’s ‘Best Ingredient Innovation’ award at the 2025 World Food Innovation Awards. AngeoPro is rich in complete amino acids and dietary fibre, has a clean taste profile, and can be used alone or blended with plant proteins such as soya, or even with whey for hybrid formulations.
“As global priorities continue to shift toward health, nutrition and sustainability, we see unprecedented market potential for yeast protein,” said Li Ku, General Manager of Angel Yeast’s Protein Nutrition and Flavoring Technology Center.“We will continue to accelerate production expansion to deliver more innovative, high-quality yeast protein solutions and help drive a more sustainable future for the global food industry.”
The new production line positions Angel Yeast at the forefront of the fast-growing alternative protein market, providing scalable, sustainable, and versatile protein solutions for the global food and beverage industry.
