Oatly has partnered with Nestlé-owned Nespresso to introduce a limited-edition line of oat milk coffee capsules, targeting the growing plant-based and specialty coffee segments internationally.

Designed exclusively for Nespresso Vertuo machines, the capsules feature a blend of roasted and ground coffee beans optimised for Oatly’s Barista Edition oat drink. According to the brands, the coffee offers creamy, biscuity notes with a smooth texture, low bitterness, and light body, highlighting the compatibility of oat milk with specialty coffee.

The launch reflects rising consumer demand for dairy alternatives: Nespresso reports that 50% of American and European consumers now use plant-based milks, with uptake even higher in the Asia-Pacific and Latin American regions.

Toby Weedon, Barista Development Director at Oatly, commented:

“Thanks to its neutral taste, Oatly Barista Edition brings out the best flavour in coffee. Working with Nespresso, we’ve created a capsule that has been tried and tested for millions of oat drink enthusiasts worldwide.”

The limited-edition Oatly Barista Edition capsules are available from 28 January 2025 in over 15 markets, including the UK, US, China, and Australia. Products will be distributed through Nespresso’s boutiques and online channels, providing retailers and distributors with a premium, plant-based coffee solution for a growing consumer segment.

This collaboration underscores a broader industry trend of co-branded, plant-based innovations, offering opportunities to capture incremental sales and differentiate product offerings in the competitive coffee capsule category.
